Issue: City Council will be debating a proposal to levy new taxes on a wide range of services including Entertainment, Land Transfer taxes, motor vehicle registration, parking, and alcohol and cigarette purchases. If approved, the revenue generated from these new taxes will be used to reduce the pressure on our reserve accounts that have been depleted in an order to balance the Budget.
Recently, the Ontario Municipal Benchmarking Initiative released a report comparing the service costs of various municipalities, including Toronto. The report concluded that Toronto is providing services at a higher cost than other municipalities in almost half of the categories researched.
Question: Under what conditions would you consider paying more taxes in Toronto?
